Man in the Map Product Review

I had the opportunity to review the book "The Man in the Map" by Schoolside Press through the TOS Homeschool Crew

This was such a delight to read with my two boys. The book helps children understand where all the 50 States are by the help of MIM- The little man in the map. The story is set in rhyme and takes you first to the little man in the map and walks you through each state with cute rhyming and helpful picture hints to help us remember where all the states are located. What a great book for elementary aged children that are new to the US States or are struggling with remembering where they all are.

As a mom, I read this book to my children and even though I know where all the states are located I can see how this book could help children remember. My oldest son said to me the other day after reading the book just once (our family has been studying each state since August of this year..) "Hey Mom, I remember where Kansas is.. It's MIM's backback full of books"

There is reference of magic that our family didn't find offensive but thought it appropriate to mention. It's not magic in the sense of bad but more on the magic of imagination as it's written in the book as the magic key of imagination... A couple of the states were drawn, possibly scary for real young children like Montana was a monster but he is smiling and my kids thought it was cute (We live in Montana) and then Alaska is a cold windy elf like drawing but again he is smiling too... There is a couple states drawn as elfs as well.

The author will sign the book at no additional cost, and will even add a short inscription, which I thought was a great way to personalize the book for your child.

The cost of the hardcover book is just $19.95 and right now the website is giving free shipping for the holidays.

You can purchase a wall map to help reinforce the stories in the book and the memorization of the states for just $21.95
or
purchase them together for only $35.00

There is a teacher's guide, (work in progress) that we had a chance to review and found this a great add on to use alongside the book with crossword puzzles, discussion questions, and hands on activities

I give this several thumbs up and will be using this as reference over and over again. I look forward to his next book "Clues for the State Capitals" Release Date unknown..
